The New York City Correction Union Supports Freddie for Mayor! October 4, 2001 Norman Seabrook, President of the 11,500 member New York City Correction Officers' Benevolent Association, announced Thursday that he and his union's Executive Board "have voted to put our union's full force behind Fernando Ferrer for Mayor of New York City." The COBA Union Chief siad that "the disaster that sturck America and New York City on September 11, 2001 changed the dynamics of the race for Gracie Mansion. "We cannot allow ourselves to be divided at this time. Just as we came together on September 11, people from all walks of life will come together to make the right decision this Thursday. "Fernando Ferrer has acted not only diplomatically, but forcefully in communicating his vision for the future to the people of New York City. Fernando Ferrer, a proven leader, will rebuild the City of New York. "As a product of the South Bronx myself," Mr. Seabrook said, "I know Freddie can rebuild not only the World Trade Center but also rebuild or repair all other parts of New York that will be desperately needed to serve as economic springboards to bring the city back to full and productive life." The Correction Union Leader pledged the help of his members, his delegates and his own strenuous efforts to ensure that Mr. Ferrer comes in first in the run off election scheduled for this Thursday and first in the General Election in November. Mr. Seabrook called on "all of the other union leaders that have not made an endorsement at this time to consider endorsing Fernando Ferrer, a man who has been labor friendly, will be labor friendly and will remain labor friendly. "During these tough times, there are tens of thousands of people and families without jobs. We will join Freddie at the table to discuss the future of New York City. Let's put him at the table so we can discuss these issues, which concern every single working New Yorker." |
