30 Thousand NYC Teachers, Students and World Famous Rap Stars Stay No To Education Budget Cuts: June 4, 2002 3pm  Story & Photos by Ralph E. Smith

On June 4, 2002, the lower Manhattan City Hall Area was turned into a real street size history classroom and the subject was Grassroots Protest combined with Rap Star Power to send a message to Mayor Bloomberg not to cut the education budget.

LL Cool J, P Diddy, Jay-Z, Dougie Fresh,  Chuck D,  and many other famous artists as well as local political leaders and young elected leaders from the Bronx all called for a end to Education Budget Cuts.

Charles Barron (D-East New York), Manhattan Borough President C. Virgina Fields, and Council Speaker Gifford Miller stated in their messages that they will keep fighting for restoration of $292 million in proposed cuts.

Towards the end, the were 9 arrest.    Wyclef Jean was arrested at the event because according to Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly, Jean tried to perform which was a violation of the permit for the event.
