As a member of the NYCD Ceremonial Unit, I loved when Capt Walton was on the call outs for a home going or graduations......His voice can be heard at least a block when calling present arms/order arms....
His love for old school house music...He lived for his family, he always talked good things about them with the biggest smile that could light up a whole room. He always made sure his uniform was tight as well as yours,,,when he shine, you shine too...and when we were in the vans heading to details we had the joy of his presence he'd joke with us going and coming back to the academy....I'm gonna miss you my brother.......Officer Capers, Ceremonial Unit
From the day Michael Walton stepped in the Academy gym on 8/2/90 his pressence was known. He was very articulate, diligent in his duties, uniform alway sharp, shoes always shining. He was serious about the work at hand. We started this career together as recruits in the academy and I was fortunate to now work with Calptain Walton as staff at the academy. He will be missed. God bless the Wallton family god has chosen a man among men.

God has called a true gentle giant home.
Big Mike was such an inspiration and
role model to the correction family!
His genuine demeanor and aura of sharp
excellence filled every room he entered.
He went out of his way time and time
again to help recruits, officers, fellow captains,
other members of service, and
civilians with issues and concerns they had about our job.
If you knew him on a
more personal level
you would know that not only was he into physical fitness,
but he was also an avid lover of music.
Often times we would have discussions
about newly released DJ equipment,
and different styles of music from the
classics to the present.
The reality is that we all have to cross this path one
day. So let us strive to ensure that our souls
are in good standing with God so
that we can again be with Big Mike
and so many of our other comrades, friends,
and family in that place of peace with the pearly white gates called heaven!

Reflections On A Real Brother, A Real Friend, A Real Leader: Big Mike Walton New York City Correction Captain
Written by Ralph E. Smith September 17, 2008
Today, September 17, 2008 while driving this morning I learned about the passing of NYCD Captain Michael Walton. I had to pull the car over and call some Brothers in Correction and in the NYC Correction Guardians Association to share my pain of the lost and the joy of knowing such a great man.
I first had the opportunity to really get to work with Big Mike in the NYCD Correction Program called IID "Institution For Inner Development. This was a program designed to help inmates development life skills inside jail and make a positive transition back to their communities. This was a powerful program for both inmates and staff. Staff were choosen by the warden to work in this program. Big Mike was selected by the warden to be trained as a IID Officer. A few years after working as a IID Officer, Big Mike moved up the career ladder and became a Captain. Captain Walton returned back to the NYCD Correction Academy to Teach IID and soon a new generation of Correction Officers the foundations of the job.
I enjoyed working with Captain Walton on the Honor Guard Details. I was a member of the NYCD Honor Guard for a number of years. Watching Captain Walton at the Honor Guard Details was like watching an artist paint a picture or a Professor in front of the classroon. Big Mike as I like to call him was giant role model who inspired everyone around him to step up.
As you can see from the front page of todays Guardian Chronicle, we didn't have to go far to find a great photo of Captain Michael Walton. The COBA selected him as Captain of the Year 2007! I can tell you that this man helped many to pass by teaching the recruits to aim high. I can tell you that he helped thousands who passed the Academy doors become profesional New York City Correction Officers. His famous line, "You Don't Know Now, But You Will is what he use to tell the recruits"
Captain Michael Walton was also an outstanding NYC Correction Guardian and just a great friend to all. He was also a great father who was so proud of his son on the front line in the Mid East.
His giant presence, compassion for people, and take charge leadership will be missed. When Captain Walton was around, you knew everthing was in place and on point. He was Mr. NYCD Ceremony. God really reached down and took the best of the best. A Real Soldier Among Men. A Real Gentleman, A Man of Honor. A man who stood talk for his Community, Family, and NYCD.
