MAYOR BLOOMBERG
DEFENDS
Umar Abdul Jalil
NY Post Article June 19, 2009
| Mayor Bloomberg yesterday defended Abdul-Jalil -- even as he said the resignations of Glanz and Correction security chief Peter Curcio "was the right thing for them to do."
"This is a guy who is somebody that does a good job, and we need to have him, and I'm very happy to have him," Bloomberg said. |

STOP BLAMING
Umar Abdul Jalil
CITY JAILS Written by Ali al-Rahman, Warden NYCD(Ret)
The recent scandal at the "Tombs" is a direct result of the fear instilled into uniform force managers by the political patronage machine began during the Guiliani administration. Rabbi Leib Glanz was appointed by Guiliani without the approval of the Chaplaincy Committee and the Board of Rabbis; he was an "untouchable".
Bureau Chief Peter Curcio, responsible for Facilities Operations signed off, thus authorizing, the Bar Mitzvah for an inmates son at the Manhattan Detention Complex, formerly the Bernard Kerik Detention Complex.
Chief Curcio's claim that Umar Abdul Jalil authorized the Event is disingenuous; civilian managers have no line authority over the uniform staff, especially a Chief deemed the second highest ranking uniformed staff member.
In fact the Deputy Warden for Security at the MDC objected and balked at carrying out the event and was re-assigned forthwith; who re-assigned the Deputy Warden? Answer that and you'll know about the pressure put on the uniform staff. Stop blaming Umar.
