Mr. Percy Sutton was the man who gave a voice to black people in New York City by having the vision to buy and build WLIB 1190am The First Black Talk Radio Station. He was the Longest serving Manhattan Borough President. He was a community leader who you saw in the community and the lawyer for Malcolm X.

Mr. Percy Sutton was also a member of the Tuskegee Airmen. The All Black Unit in the Air Force. He worked during law school to become an outstanding lawyer.

Many young people had a chance to attend college because of his work. This writer had an opportunity to attend a college internship at Inner City Broadcasting Corporation and learn the business from the inside. I met a lot of great people in the radio business at WLIB and WBLS.  Just having the opportunity to be in the same room as Mr. Sutton’s Brother’s was an honor. Mr. Percy Sutton, A man who will be missed, we thank you for what you leave behind for others to follow.
