THE NYCD HISPANIC SOCIETY HELPS DISTRIBUTE 200 THANKSGIVING FOOD BASKETS TO FAMILIES IN THE DISTRICT 12 SECTION OF THE BRONX

Story by Ralph E. Smith- Reporter  Guardian Chronicle November 20, 2010

Saturday, November 20, 2010 I arrived at the Immaculate Conception Church located at 754 East Gun Hill Road, Bronx, New York, 10467 at about 8:00am and saw about 50 people lined up outside for the Thanksgiving Dinner Basket Food Distribution Program.

One man I interviewed outside said, " This program and this church is a great help to me.  I have teenagers at home and this program helpd me help my family."

Upon going inside the church it was amazing to see the the food distributuion line and all the wonderful volunteers who came out to assist.

The NYCD Hispanic Society, Inc Executive Board came out to volunteer: Antonio Velez- President, Maritza Velazquez- Vice President For Finance, Angel L. Resto- Treasurer, and Khalilah Flemister- Director of Community Programs:   The volunteers helped pack food baskets that included Frozen Turkeys, Juice, Onions, Stuffing Mix Can Goods, and Grayv Mix.

When the doors opened, about 250 families came through so happy to receive not just the baskets, but hugs, and smiles from the volunteers.  A Thanksgiving lunch was provided for the hard working volunteers at the end of the program.
