Kevin Johnson- Assistant Commissioner-NYCD
Receives Community Service Award From
Bedford Stuyvesant Boys & Girls High School

Most New York City Department of Correction employees know Assistant Commissioner Kevin P. Johnson as the “Voice” of Correction. He also provides his voice and services to the Bedford Stuyvesant community. For the last 34 years, Assistant Commissioner Johnson has also been the “voice” of the Boys and Girls High Schools Basketball teams. In fact since 1975, he has been one of the announcers for the Kangaroos.
Each year Boys and Girls High School hosts a Thanksgiving Basketball Holiday Classic and the Martin Luther King Basketball Classic. Both Commissioner Johnson and his twin brother provide their services to the school by serving as the announcers for the games.
Commissioner Johnson believes that giving something back to the community, whether it is time or service is important. Commissioner Johnson lives by the credo that service to others is how we pay for our room here on earth.
On January 17, 2009, Commissioner Johnson was presented with two tokens of appreciation from Boys and Girls High School during the Martin Luther King Basketball Classic.
