The Federal Goverment Says To Katrina Victims: December 1 "We Will Not Pay For Your Housing November 23, 2005 Story by Ralph E. Smith- Publisher In New York City, about two thousand victims from the Katrina Hurricane are in New York. New Yorkers did what New Yorkers do best; they opened their hearts and doors to help. A small New York City Correction Facility on Rikers Island named N.I.C reached out to a family and provided them with a check for $1,000.00 dollars to help them out this holiday. Many City agencies reached out to help. New York City stepped up to the plate and said "We Can Do this" The problem is that the Federal Government sat down, dropped the ball and announced that it will not pay for rooms after December 1, 2005. God bless Mayor Bloomberg for his leadership in this matter. New York City will extend the benefit another month! Bloomberg gets a big "A Plus" Why are we fighting a world war and letting our people, "Americans" die waiting for assistance and then kicking people out of their temporary housing just in time for a very cold winter? I'm sorry, this is wrong! During this holiday season as you look at your table and all that good food packed 12 inches high, remember the Katrina victims by taking action. Pack some of that good food, go visit and talk to some of the Katrina victims at the following locations: Westway Motor Inn at Grand Central Parkway in East Elmhurst, Queens and the Radisson Hotel near Kennedy Airport. Call these locations today November 23, 2005 for more details and directions. Find a family in one of these hotels and show up with a smile, conversation, food, and you will make a friend for life! If thanksgiving means anything, then step out of your immediate family holiday table and go stop by and put something on a Katrina victim's table: That's real love! That's the real meaning of Thanksgiving! |
