New York State Trooper Test

Starting Salary: $50,374.00

Applications are now available online for the upcoming New York State Police examination.

Lt. Gov. David Paterson and state police acting Superintendent Preston L. Felton yesterday announced that exams are scheduled for Jan. 19, Jan. 26, Feb. 2 and Feb. 9 and will be offered at several locations around the state.

The state's new online application system, www.nytrooper.com , provides candidates access to information about the job and enables one to easily register to take the exam.

The starting salary during training is $50,374. Upon graduation, that increases to $61,525 and to $65,358 after one year.

After five years of service a trooper's salary increases to $77,218, with additional longevity payments.

There is additional pay for troopers assigned to Dutchess, Nassau , Orange , Putnam, Rockland , Suffolk , and Westchester counties and New York City .

Online applications must be submitted by midnight Dec. 1.

Results from the examination will establish an eligibility list that may remain in effect for a maximum of four years.
