Obituary

Son of the union of Mr. James Copeland and Ms. Beryl Allen. James Robert Copeland was born in New York City, NY on March 7, 1943 and departed on February 17, 2010. He was the eldest of six children. From the age of four, he was raised by Henry and Beryl Holt. As he matured his father taught him many trades such as carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and painting. Later in life he received an Associates degree (AAS) in Dental Technology from Williamsport Area Community College. During his lifetime, he lived in the states of Pennsylvania, Indiana, and New York, where he spent most of his time.

James attended NY public schools. He loved his family, and always gave a helping hand - unconditionally. He also gave wisdom and support, whether you listened or not. James was smooth; he listened to and studied the young so that he could give them knowledgeable guidance. He enjoyed family gatherings, watching sports, playing chess, music and traveling. James was a carpenter by trade, and enjoyed working with his hands; he designed and completed many home renovation projects. Even as his health declined, James spirit was never broken, he continued to work and give hope and guidance to others. He was determined to get better.

James loved Carilyn, and together they helped mentor their five children to self-productive lives. James loved children and family, his own as well as others, James would always take time out to teach his children and others the skills he had mastered over the years. James was a loving and caring family man.

James leaves to celebrate his life his wife Carilyn, five children Robert, Latanga, Jermaine, Leonard, Jahba; his five siblings (spouse) Eugene, Arnold (Regina), Henry (Bernadette), Janice (Pete), Dimitrice (Johnny); four brother/sister in Laws Belinda, Tangie, Deon, Pierre; mother in law Deloris; four uncles/aunts Lucille, Bernice, Carrie, Oscar; six grandchildren Shantell, Ravon, Raven, Jermaine, Jada, Quin-en. He is survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

TO THOSE WHO KNEW HIM BEST

He had a warm and kind heart –he never turned his back on a true friend or family member. His early ties and associates became his extended family whom he always spoke about warmly.

He Will Be Missed By Everyone Who Knew Him

To Those I Love and Those Who Love Me
When I am gone, release me, let me go.
I have so many things to see and do.
You mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears,
Be happy that we had so many years.
I gave you my love, you can only guess
How much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you have shown
But now it’s time I travel on alone.
So grieve awhile for me, if grieve you must
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It’s only for a little while that we must part,
So bless the memories within your heart.
I won’t be far away, for life goes on.
So if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be near.
And if you listen with your heart you’ll hear
All of my love around you soft and dear.
And then, when you must come this way alone
I’ll greet you with a smile and "Welcome Home."
