Correction Officer
HECTOR CACERAS Shield# 14169

Officer Hector Caceras was an outstanding family man who loved his wife and children. If you didn’t know his family before going on a hospital run with him, you got to know his family going to the hospital and leaving the hospital. Listen to all the wonderful memories of Officer Hector Caceras from Staff:

Warden Merritt: Officer Hector Caceras was indeed the ultimate professional. VCBC has lost a good man.

Correction Officer Burgos- Officer Hector Caceras had a great personality.  He was a great person to work with.  He made my job enjoyable  when I had the pleasure of working with him.  He will be missed.

Correction Officer Laundro: Officer Hector Caceras was a great story teller. He could really keep a conversation going for hours! He could have been a Talk Show host. He was the Life of the Van!

Correction Officer Vizcarronao: He knew the job. He was a Rules and Regulation guy. When I first arrived at VCBC, he welcomed me with love. He was very nice to me. A real good Officer.

COBA Representative Boscio: Correction Officer Hector Caceras was a good , funny great man who will be missed. He was truly a great Officer to work with.

Correction Officer Rivera: Correction Officer Hector Caceras was my Hospital Run Partner and friend. We had a 10 year friendship. Officer Caceras was a professional and a man of God. He wore Family on his chest.

Correction Officer Sheehan: I was always amazed Officer Hector Caceras would rebuild staff computers for free.

Correction Officer Humes: I knew Correction Officer Hector Caceras since he was assigned to VCBC. His standard line to you was, “ I will fix it. Don’t worry about it.”

Correction Officer Hinds: I knew Correction Officer Caceras since 1996. He was an Officer always there when you needed him. He is funny. A Great talker, and story teller. He kept me up during the Midnight Tour so I wouldn’t get in trouble by a Supervisor. He was a walking newsroom. He always kept me informed about current events. He was someone I could let some steam off with and vent.

Walker- Captain: I met him at C95 and when I came to VCBC. A Great Officer.

Rojas- Captain: Correction Officer Hector Caceras is a very good Officer

Rivera Captain: Correction Officer Hector Caceras was a good family man. He was a good person who I knew for 5 years.

Dominguez- Correction Officer: I met Correction Officer Hector Caceras while riding the train when we were recruits in the NYCD Academy. We would later become Car Poll Friends. He was a humble man,

Brown- Correction Officer: Correction Officer Hector Caceras is Mr. Electronics. I'm proud to have known him for 7 years.

Alicea: Correction Officer: Correction Officer Hector Caceras was a real good honest guy.

Jackson Correction Officer: I worked with Correction Officer for 10 years. He was known as Mr. Computer Repair! He was a good guy who cared about his wife and daughters. He would talk about his wife the doctor and recently about his daughter graduating from college.

Figueroa- A 20 year Veteran Correction Officer: Correction Officer Hector Caceras was my friend, car buddy and hospital run partner for the last 10 years! He was a funny person who always talked about his wife and daughters. He was also known as Mr. Computer and he never said no to a repair. If it was broke, he could fix it. He cared about people. I would always wait after the tour of duty was over to give him a ride home to his house. He was the real deal. A real family man. I’m going to really miss him. My friend.

Big Officer Happy Martinez:  Partners at 1B and on Hospital Runs.

Have you ever heard of working for food. Correction Officer Hector Caceras wouldn’t take money for his professional computer repairs. Instead he would tell you don’t give me money, give me a sandwich and a soda instead.

Lopez- Correction Officer. He was my prayer partner. He would always ask me to pray for him, his family and his health. He was Mr. Computer and called himself The Ping Pong Master. He always had an encouraging word for you. I was always happy to see him. My spirit was lifted being in his presence.

Smith- Correction Officer. Correction Officer Hector Caceras was my VCBC parking lot partner. We parked our cars near visits next to each other separated by a light poll.

During our hospital runs at 0100hrs we got to know each other. I got to know his family by listening to him talk about his daughters and his wife. “Hey Smithy, I gave my old ride to my daughter because she needed a car.” I loved listening to him because I would make mental notes on how I should treat my family. I’m known as the ICE MAN because I bring about 4 to 6 frozen Water bottles to work. I would always pack a bottle just to give to Officer Caceras because he loved my frozen water. I will miss his positive professional energy and conversation.

People come in and out of our life for a reason. It was truly a blessing for all who had the opportunity to have a conversation with Correction Officer Hector Caceras, Shield #14169.
